What do you mean? Trump is popular and in him they have the person to intact all their policies and ideologies.

Trump has regained most of the popularity he lost at his lowest point in 2020.

So things really aren't as clear cut as you make it out to be.

They are short terms gains and that too for only trump, not for the party. Trump despite being a giant, immature, man-child is highly charismatic and attracts lots of people. Lot of the moderate Republicans are being shunned away from trump style politics. The Republican party members are extremely unpopular among educated and younger population. When Trump is gone, Trump's stooges that are more divisive will still be there, with same divisive policies/speeches but without his charisma and popularity.

You have absolutely no idea of the long lasting impact Trump has already made, and what he can do with another term. With the US political setup, it's extremely difficult to change something when it's set in place, so everyone will have to deal with the consequences of his term for decades, not years, to come. Another 4 years will be insane.

• First, and maybe the worst, was he normalized a lot of things. There were bigots and racists before this, but they were hesitant to display that openly, or at least not to the extent it is today. Politically, too, even for a republican saying racist things openly was political suicide for the most part. But he normalized what is acceptable to say in public, and that rhetoric is embraced by his base. This is arguably worse than anything else.
• Say what you will about the US politics, but both people and politicians more or less respected the process before. Elections ARE fair here, and everybody accepted that. And politicians too would concede when they knew they lost. But he changed that, and there's no longer that respect for the system, which can be extremely harmful. He has still not accepted Biden won fair last time, and taking lead from him, there are so many House and lower level republicans these days who do not accept election results. And they are publicly saying that the they won't accept the results if the opponents win. Losing the trust in the system in a democracy is pretty bad to put it mildly.
• He is not afraid to take the low road, and do anything either within or without the system to get what he wants. For example, if the shooting was reversed, he would not have been as graceful as Biden, would not have paused his campaign and in all honesty would have doubled down, spreading conspiracy theories himself saying things like Biden himself had arranged the shooting. This is just an example, he's done this over and over again, normalizing that behavior. Lots of federal and state candidates have again adopted this now.
• Most traditional Republicans don't like him much, grant you that, but they absolutely like being able to use him to their ends. Mitch McConnel is a great example, they all think he's a tool behind closed doors, but they absolutely used him and his disregard for due process to stack the Supreme Court with republican candidates, and you see the impact it has had already. They already overturned Roe v Wade, gay marriage protections are definitely not safe, and they just essentially granted the president immunity for pretty much anything he does during the term as long as it can be justified as an 'official act'. With Trump absolutely stacking lower courts too with Republican aligned judges, this now will be a pretty easy thing for him to do. And in the future, a president can easily go after opponents as long as they find a way to say it's an official act, and what the Republicans have shown is that they are willing to do that.
• He's paved the road for things like Project 2025 to come into the open. He's not officially backing them, but we all know what he will do if he comes to power. And the stuff in their agenda is legit scary. For example, the US government has hundreds of thousands of employees, but only a fraction of them are political appointees. They change with each government change - as it should - so the new president can appoint people he wants to those positions. But the overwhelming majority of government jobs are categorized as 'non political' jobs, and they have protections against being removed by a new government. This is a VERY good thing; you don't want agencies like FDA, EPA, NOAA etc. to be a political tool, you want them to be fact based and do what's in the best interest of the public, not the politicians. It's not a perfect system but it does work for the most part. But one of the main agendas of the Project 2025 is to remove this protection, so they can appoint their people to things like EPA, and then stop the work those agencies have been doing. For example, with that change they can fire most current employee and get their people in who will claim Global Warming is not a thing, and revert many changes we've done to address this. And this is only one example - there are countless other government jobs that are essential for the functioning of the government, and if those jobs becomes political appointments, you're basically setting the stage for a dictator to take control. Combine this with the above Supreme Court decision, goodbye democracy.
• The US constitution is, by design, secular, which is one of the greatest things about it. But Republicans never liked this, yet never acted much to change it either. But with the kind of people backing him being enabled by him, and especially his appointments to courts, this can (and already has) change. Laws are an 'interpretation' of the constitution, and as long as you have your judges, you can do mental gymnastics and interpret it to be something it's not. Which is exactly what they did with overturning Roe v Wade; we all know that opposition to abortion is overwhelmingly based in Christian religious beliefs, and yet they've essentially made a decision based on religion. And this precedent can reach far, for smaller courts, district courts, and enable an environment where this turns into a Christian nation pretty much officially.
• Finally, it doesn't matter even if Trump will be gone in 4 years. Like I said, he's already changed the rhetoric, and empowered a lot of not-so-nice people to publicly do things they weren't thinking of doing before. And with another Trump term they'll essentially cement those policies, and Dems will pretty much find it impossible to come back. It doesn't matter that numbers wise majority are with Dems, the electoral college system ensures that smaller red states have unbalanced power. The long and short of it is another Trump term means pretty much everyone's ***** - and that is including a lot of Republicans. You know... when the powers don't have enough enemies, they'll eventually turn to you as well.
