Leo was brilliant, no doubt about that.
The story was, though, so-so. There was something missing, the story was so impersonal. I couldn't care for Leo and his sons relationship, I couldnt hate the guy who killed the kid, you didnt even feel for the natives. I wouldnt rate it as a very good movie.

But I think by the very nature of the material it's hard to make it a personable story
These are rough frontier men. They aren't mushy emotional feely types. So I think it's very hard to care for them
For me it was a movie like we are transported to this amazing world and we watch this story unfold. I dunno I really got the big deal about the cinematography of this movie cuz on the big screen I felt really captivated
It's kind of like Deadwood. You are peeping behind the curtain to this really rough era
I mean it's not a ground breaking story in anyway though. Except perhaps the way it's put together. Just the realism and brutality of it is what we are supposed to get out of this I think
