@ Bada and mugatiya: I found the new matrix movie a big let down. I mean it is watchable. However it was like recycling of the old story, similar to new star wars movies which did not bring anything new to the table and left us with burning question, was a new movie really necessary?
Bringing people back from dead, is just lazy script writing. Especiallly the way they rebuild a dead human, not a programme, even if they do manage to do it which is very unrealistic ,how do we know new human will have same consciousness. Bit silly. Matrix itself says there were many neo's before the current one, as there were many matrixes before, so could have done something creative and brought back neo in a more realistic way if that was really needed
I found it to be alright, nothing brilliant. Was the movie necessary? Probably not, but it's about making money. Similar to most of the franchise movie series that keep going.

Obviously. And some of that behavior is not just confined to US media/politicians alone. I mean last 4-5 years it was at its peak. There are so many who are dismissive about these things. Even respected ones who don't consider it a priority sometimes.
One of the catch phrases sometime back was- 'if there's global warming, why is it so cold these days..'. I think Trump also said that in a rally.
You also get so many talk shows and comedians doing sketches on the same making fun how ignorant people are. And that's why I say they got the message right.
It's just that from a filmmaking/narrative perspective, I don't consider it great. It had all the ingredients for it though.
If this movie had a scene where JenLaw and President find out that their mothers have the same name so they become besties and then solve Global Warming Keshi would be all over it.
Jokes aside though, I think it's a brilliant movie.
As Muga mentioned, especially if you live in the US or are current with what's going on in here, it hits home very close. Over the last decade, particularly last 5 years the US has polarized beyond imagination to the point where facts don't matter anymore. That's why this movie is such a huge analogy to both Climate Change as well as the COVID pandemic, not to mention just positions on science in general. Your take on scientific issues is no longer based on facts here but your political affiliation; that's why if you're Republican you're automatically a climate denier, anti-vaxxer, COVID-denier, mask denier etc., for a large part of the population. And the movie has captures this truth so well. The newscaster duo is also great, basically they're the equivalent of not just news but all major corporations; they don't really care what's going on, they're just there to profit off of whatever they can, and wants to hangout with only those who they like.
As a movie alone, I don't know why it doesn't deserve to be one of the best in the year. Has a great cast and acting, and jokes hit home for the most part, and in general not just funny but witty. Absolutely love it.

I understand what you mean about bringing dead people back, but let's face it, Matrix wouldn't be Matrix without Neo and Trinity; it's already a little letdown without Morpheus. So there was no way they were going to not bring them back. And honestly, when you watch sci-fi you need to suspend belief up to a certain point and buy in to the premise and go along with it. The machines reconstructing Neo is not any more unrealistic than the entire premise of the movie is it - they cloud the sky to block the sunlight so machines wouldn't get energy, but then machines use up humans to generate energy. So... where do they get the energy to feed the humans? Without sun there would be no energy and the planet would be dead. You need to buy into that BS to enjoy Matrix, and if you do then machines reconstructing humans isn't so hard to believe.
And I do love some of the new concepts - like humans finally getting along with some of the machines. I really liked that part, that they realizing you don't have to fight all machines and that there's much value in cooperation than war. And the fact that machines realizing the same and siding with humans is also a neat tie in to the Matrix cannon (not part of movies) as well. If you don't know - in the beginning, the whole thing started with a robot killing it's master, then the humans killed / decommisioned the robot and this sparked a huge debate and eventually divided the humanity where some of the humans sided with robots and went to war with other humans. Those robot+human faction won and they were the founders of the robot city we see, and those humans were the first (voluntary) subjects of the Matrix where they wanted to escape the harsh reality and live in a dream world while in return the machines got the energy they needed. So this idea of humans working with machines again kinda comes full circle and I loved the idea.
What I didn't really liked was the visuals/fights/action sequences. Holy **** that was a let down. As soon as I watched the movie I mentioned this to Muga in a chat, and later I found an article that articulated exactly how I felt. In the OT, they didn't just shake the camera and create illusion of fightigh, they had clear focused one on one fights, cool martial arts, and even gun fights were focused and clean/crisp. The new movie is not different to any of thousands of other Hollywood movies in that regard. Fights were too much chaos, much of it clouded in darkness, and just wasn't momorable at all.

Agree with TO here. Yes the movie revolves around Trinity and Neo but they also had that new cast who were pretty great and also cast well enough that you could see them all as copies of the old crew. I enjoyed that aspect of it too.
The part I really enjoyed in the movie is how they tied the OT into this new movie with all the snippets and the flashback / vision / dream type montages. I think that worked really well.
I didn't have an issue with the plot. It makes sense that the humans would eventually recruit a higher level of AI to their side and they work together..same as we are currently doing IRL with AI in its current form.
100% agree on fight sequences. Felt very flat to me and I was waiting for some cool showdowns but they never came. Mostly it was Neo just force pushing away bullets and bad guys.
That slo-mo sequence where NPS shoots trinity and does the exposition was pretty cool I thought.
