Lot of times a team is selected based on how the player does in the nets leading to the match. He has to compete for the 4 out of 11 spot, when you take into that consideration, I dont know why people would choose him over others.
Not only. His leggies still have some potency lol. Anyway, there really arent that many great leggies in the world. South africa dont really have any outside of Shamsi. Pakistan have like Usman Qadir and Shadab. Australia have no one other than Swepson and Zampa. NZ only really has Sodhi. The West Indies have no one outside of Hayden Walsh who again is not that good. I could go on but its hard to find half decent leg spinners. We are blessed in that regard.
I can name at least 15 leggies better than Akila (lol)
Pakistan - Shadab,Yasir,Usman Qadir
India - Chahal,Bishnoi,Chahar,
Afghanisthan - Rashid,Qais
Nepal - Lamichane
West Indies - Walsh
Australia - Zampa,Swepson
New Zealand - Sodhi,Astle
Sri Lanka - Hasaranga,Vandersay
Eng -Rashid,Parkinson
Thats 18 leggies better than Akila who is useless with his leggies.Actually this is the best time in cricket for leg spinners,so many good leg spinners in the world now
Didnt include mystery and chinaman bowlers such as Theekshana,Mujeeb,Kuldeep,Shamzi,Noor Ahamed
