It is a risk for county teams to go with these two. They can only have 2 foreign players. Might as well give it to some South African guy who is used to this kind of condition. Obviously, there is big exception for players like Pujara, Rehane and etc. If I remember correctly, even Herath was playing for a Club team and not country when he got the second call up. Someone confirm?
Yeah, even then they should go play club or something.
I have a long explaination on why they shouldn't. Is it worth for them though to play club cricket? I don't think so at all. Club teams don't pay all that well. Most club teams pay several thousands to $15,000 for the 4-5 month season. It doesn't make sense for Chandimal and Mathews to go live abroad in some player's basement or live in someone's house for 4-5 months for couple of thousand dollars a month. Some SL U-19 player going abroad and doing this is worth it because they get to gain experience playing in different conditions, make money so they will have enough to extend their potential FC or U-23 career for 2-3 more years. It also works if you are a former FC cricketer who is no longer playing FC or playing but very long from playing in the big league. Not worth it at all for guys with 250+ innings at international level. Also the competition wouldn't be all that for them to improve. In fact it will ruin it because they have to adjust to the pace. They might end up regressing. It is kind of different for bowlers.
We have a Pakistani FC player and a former PSL player in our club. I faced former Indian U19, IPL and India A player last week. The reason they chose Canada over UK club cricket is for the extra few thousand dollars. Both are never going to play for their respective countries. The Pakistani dude maybe has a chance, but age isn't on his side. I know Canada is trying to poach both of them.
