Played a match winning in knock in Pallakale 176?
90 odd in Galle.
Both were quality knocks instrumental in winning the test series vs Australia.
No way Rangana had enough runs to defend in that Galle test if not for mendis.

Who said they were not quality knocks. He made that 176 and then 87 in Galle, both were good knocks which made people predict he was the future of SL cricket. But few innings like that doesn't make a great player or even a good one. Consistency is the key which has failed to obtain. Number 3 is the most vital position in the batting line up and to average just 17 against top teams is just not on.

When Sanath, Marvan, Murali and Vaas came in, there were seniors such as Arjuna, Arvinda, Mahanama that were slightly older than them there to guide them. When Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan came there were Sanath, Marvan, Vaas, Murali and so on. When Tharanga and Malinga came, there were Sanga, Mahela, Dilshan and, Thilan and etc. But when these new crops of SL players came, there weren't many to guide them. Clearly, Tharanga taking Mendis to get drunk during middle of a Test match isn't good influence. The new crops of guys just didn't have any seniors to guide them nor there was a coach that guided them well. How many coaches, admins, selectors and batting/bowling/fielding coaching changes have happened ? how do you think they feel seeing constant changes around them ? These school cricket and instagram fame can get to any young player's head, you have to have people there to keep these guys in check and guide them.
