Must be the easiest format while only very few players crack average of 35+ in SL List A matches. If you can't average 40+ in SL list A, how can you convince me that you are good enough to play redball cricket vs the big boys like Eng, Aus,RSA and Ind ? Some of these guys average in late 20s in SL List A. I mean come on now. What is the guarantee that they will start averaging 35+ when reaching international stage ? I mean, how many current SL national players have ODI average of 35+ other than Mathews ?
These guys barely averaged 30-32 in SL List A when they made it into the Test team in modern cricket
Mahela
Sanga
Samaraweera
Dilshan
Chandimal
Dimuth
I doubt Aravinda averaged anywhere near 30 in List A in his early days. They have done alright in Test cricket.
Can't see the point in getting confused with formats. FC for Test. List A for ODI. Common sense.
Of course, there's no guarantee of even the guys who average high in SL List A doing well in international cricket. It is what it is. Angelo Perera is a good example. He has a great List A record.
There was only 8 FC team if i remember correctly and quality of school and domestic was strong. I mean didn't Ruvindu Gunasekara from Canada top the all rounder list like 2 seasons ago ? Didn't someone say the average age of the SL FC system is 25 or something ? I know the format is different but I was trying to say how can we expect them to do well in the most difficult format(Test) at international stage if they can't even average 35+ in the local SL List A which isn't supposed to be hard consdiering the talent diluation.
