14 teams to battle for supremacy in Sri Lanka's premier first-class season
Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League Tournament 2018/19 to kick start on 30th November 2018 with 14 teams battling for supremacy in Sri Lanka's premier first-class season which will last for 3 months.
Last Season
Chilaw Marians won the last year's silverware after a tough fight with SSC who ended up on runners-up. Moors bounced back from poor start to end the season on a high note winning the plate championship while Army finished on 2nd only 2.42 points behind.
Veteran Sachithra Serasinghe managed to top the run-scoring chart with 901 runs while anchoring Chilaw to the title while his counterpart Oshada Fernando finished on 2nd with 817 runs. Malinda Pushpakumara finished on top of the highest wicket-takers tally with 70 wickets leading his side Chilaw from the front while Chanka Komasaru managed to finish on 2nd only 1 wicket behind Malinda.
Promotion and Demotion
Negombo CC will make their premier league debut after winning the tier-B Championship last season while Bloomfield who finished on the bottom of the Plate points table was relegated to the tier B.
Groups
Group A will feature last year's champions Chilaw Marians and Plate Champions Moors Sports Club. Premier Giants NCC and Ragama will also feature in group A while Boys from Army, Sri Lanka Ports and unpredictable Tamil Union will complete the group.
Group B which will feature some heated battles among CCC, Colts, and SSC while rookie Negombo will also feature in Group B. BRC, Saracens and Badureliya will complete the line-up.
How the tournament progress
Teams will play all the team in the relevant group in a league basis as a 3-day game and top 4 from each group will qualify to the super 8 while bottom 3 will qualify to the plate championship. Super 8 will be played as a 4-day game while plate will continue the league stage format. The top team at the end of the Super 8 will win the prestigious premier league title while Top team of Plate championship will win the plate.
