Because I was listening to that pod with Sanga and he was quizzed on how his cricket was shaped by the environment he grew up on. He spoke about playing at Asgiriya and how teams had quicks to make use of the movement and seam up there.
We know Sanga is an excellent player of quick bowling. That's what prompted the question.
I think this in a nutshell highlights the short-sighted nature of our domestic cricket being so centralized to the batting paradises of Colombo and surrounding areas.
It's quite sad we abandoned that test ground until Palle came along. Surely with Prov type teams in place we could have had lots of teams playing a variety of conditions all over the Island
Col - good batting
Galle - Spin
Kandy - Seam/Swing
etc.. Aaaany who.
Also it will be interesting to check other batsmen who've made the grade from those areas. Sanga also talked about the Rugby obssessed nature of Kandy.
I can't vouch for that. Is cricket seen as a secondary sport in Kandy? Guys like TO and Charu can chime in I guess.
Wait for famous freehit Pod to listen about Palle and Asgiriya... already recorded.
Agree totally.
In general,
Hambanthota to Moratuwa produce best pacers, hitters and spinners.
Colombo produce best batsman against spin.
Kandy produce batsman good agains pace.
Hopefully north will produce fast bowling all rounders.
