Dimuth's average (36.8) is OK for an opener. It's probably more impressive than a middle order batter averaging close to 40.

So, no one pointed out Chandimal the top batsman from the currently available players, didn't even get selected against India while both bottom batters Thiri and KM played. Now, PJ could say, well they have been doing much better lately (thus, better averages), however if that justifies their selections to play against India, then we saw the result! Not only we lost by an innings in the 1st test, we lost the 2nd test by a huge margin!
BTW - I have not seen PJ criticizing the Rajapakse government policies yet, has anyone noticed that? If I have missed it, my sincere apologies. 03-18-2022, 10:18 PM

Do you really think Chandimal's inclusion would have made any difference to the ultimate result. One player can't change results in a series where we were completely outplayed. Thirimanne's selection could be justified because he was the second highest run getter for SL in 2021 averaging 50 behind Dimuth. Chandimal averaged just 23 in 12 innings in 2021. We have never done well in India over the years even with Sanga, Mahela, Sanath, Marvan, Vaas, Murali in the team, so this result is not surprising. 03-19-2022, 02:56 AM
Chandimal's career average was 45 after Lozengegate in 2018. It's down to 39.4 now. That's how poor he has been. It's a big dip.
