Anyway, right now we still do not have a settled batting lineup. As I`ve said in a previous post we still dont know which position is right for each players. Charith for example basically opened throughout the world cup. Correspondingly Bhanuka basically played 2 positions up because Avishka also failed in addition to the constant occurence of an opener being out. Hence we are not really anywhere near a settled batting line up at the moment and with KJP`s ailings and Avishka`s pretty clear inability to smack spin I dont think this lineup is anywhere near 'settled.' Furthermore Jarrod Kimber himself in his review on youtube of the t20 world cup discussed how he was not sure about the t20 batting at the death. There still has to be some tinkering done.
I personally dont undestand why someone like Hasaranga or Chamika cannot play at the top. Both have differnt batting styles. Hasaranga doesnt really seem to have many technical deficiencies but has constantly gottedn out through catches. I remember someone saying on this forum that he could really exploit the powerplay well because of his tendency to hit it in the air. Though this was against Ireland, hasaranga already proved he could do this role well. Even if he fails at the top, it doenst matter because its aggressive cricket, does not waste too many balls and we can always play an extra batsman.
Chamika on the other hand has been a slow starter and I`m sure whilst a guy like Hasaranga might consistently prosper at the death, Chamika has struggled a lot more. He is certainly a guy who can bat though as we`ve seen against England, Inddia and even in the LPL match a couple days back. It feels like a waste to have a guy like that at number 7 as his bowling still isnt up to mark and his batting still isnt being used to its max potential
You can write essays but the bottom line is not everyone can bat at the top and not everyone is suited to play the finisher role. Just putting someone because another player is not performing is not the way to go. Nothing to lose attitude is not the way to build a batting lineup. The best role for a player should be identified and he should be given a fair run to perform without chopping and changing all the time.
Chamika batted through batting at #8, do you seriously think he has the technique and temperament to play similar innings batting at 3/4?
Why cant he? He hit that 75 a couple days ago against a pretty decent bowling lineup. HE has a first class century. We still dont know what Chamika`s best role is. He has had 10 t20 innings and not performed that well as of yet. How many do you want to give?
