He has a serious weakness against left armers, he has a serious weakness against bowling coming in from that angle. I feel Janith Liyanage must be tried instead of him, if he continues to struggle.
Also what do you guys think about Kamindu Mendis. He has been very dissapointed. Note that it is a very good thing that LPL was not played in Pallekalle. Every batsman gets to form when you play there, and you get false sense of reassurance of players there. So we should play LPL in grounds where Sri Lanka doesn't have a good win record in t20 like Premadasa and Hambanthota. These pitches are more like overseas pitches for us, so players do well here have a good chance doing well overseas as well.
Avishka is seriously talented, he is rare to find. Sometime you just have to suck it and let these guys play, make mistakes and have them learn from it. The typical 20 or odd so players that we know will always be in the contention. Liyanage looks good, very good, most importantly, he seems very calm and doesn't show emotions. He is 26, i'd given him an A tour chance and he sees how he performs. Wouldn't rush him in just yet.
I have very high hopes of Kamindu Mendis, he can score all around the park, bowl decent finger spin with both arms for a batting allrounder. He hits big sixes with ease. Unfortunately he has been disappointing. The occasion might have gotten to him. Should be a regular A team player and should be a decent middle order player for the national team. He can be back up to Chamika. But he needs to be consistent.
Out of the few matches that I watched, the talent is decent and the 3-4 matches all were interesting. I like this season better than the last one. I know there weren't big stars, but it was still fun to watch.
You were correct about Avishka. However I hope he works on his tentativeness against spinners as slcricfan has mentioned and must work at the nets with Binura Fernando (to improve against that left arm bowl coming in). As I have said this guy is very good at getting into form, and equally good at getting out of form. Either he gets into form and goes on a purple patch, or gets out for low scores consequetively. Hambanthota suits his game well. However you are correct he is a serious talent, hope he works on these weaknesses and does well for Sri Lanka in the future.
