Here are my observations so far;
1) Malay Boy Janith Liyanage is a great find of this tournament. Why was our selectors ignoring him all this time? I cannot remember him playing even in the SLC Invitational. He bats maturely and one would think that he has already played at international level for the way he controls the game without showing any nerves. He speaks very good English as well.
These kinds of top level tournaments allow these hidden talents to be seen by the regular public, and the selectors no longer could avoid them from selection.
2) Pulina Tharanga is a dedicated player and gives his 100% all the time. But, his leg spinners are nowhere closer to the 3 young leggies I mentioned in an earlier post. That runout of Ashen Bandara was a result of Pulina's alertness. Ashen was struggling anyway, and that he was released from his misery with that runout. Janith Liyanage is leaps ahead of fringe players like Ashen Bandara and even ahead of Kamindu Mendis in terms of controlling the game.
3) Vimukthi's spinners is not that impressive for me. He does not turn enough for him to steal my heart for him. He is at same level with Praveen Jayawickrema, but Praveen turns the ball bit more than Vimukthi.
4) Finally, a word about our 3 Durham boys. Except for Dickwella, the other 2 have taken this suspension to their heart and batting like that there is no tomorrow. It seems that they are finally coming around to realize the value of being in the team. They took it for granted, and even when the selectors picked them ahead of other deserving players, they did not give their best and lost focus. Now, it is amazing how they have gotten back their focus and the passion to play well. In addition to his batting, I have been noticing that Kusal Mendis is doing a fantastic job behind the wickets. He is far ahead than KJP in that regard. He moves very fast to the ball.
5) We have to be very grateful to the Pakistanis for letting their coaches, players and what not, get involved with LPL and support this tournament to be a great success. If India has cared to do half of that in supporting us, this tournament would have been even better!
Is Samit Patel the only Indian participation in the LPL? I heard Sanjay Bangar is in a coaching staff of a team.
Anyway, India is treating us like we are their enemy, without letting their players to take part. This is why I would never support the Indian team in a Global Tournament.
Thank you, Pakistan! Yes, Afghans are playing too, but it is very beneficial for us when those coaches and players came from a top notch test playing nation.
