What a match! These are bilateral series, no need to win but we managed to entertain the Indian crowd today! If we could play like this the remaining matches, India will invite us for more bilateral series in the future.
If we could get rid of DDS (since Dasun does not bowl him, we could have either Avishka or Navanidu - nothing to lose in batting) and Asalanka (I don't know about him for T20Is, I have seen so many times, that Asalanka getting out to similar shots in T20Is), and see how that goes. Since these are bilateral series, we need to give chances to our up and coming players to strengthen our bench. We also should have given a chance to Sadeera, again. I think, that is how we make use of these series since simply trying to win (and then lose anyway) with the top team that we always play with, is a very bad strategy and planning, for the long run. Then, in a ICC world cup tournament, when the first string players go down due to injury, we don't have proper replacements. India always have at least 3 players to replace any given position. England, Australia, NZ, SA all have at least 2 players for each position. We rarely get these top teams inviting us for bilateral series. |
