I'm not sure about this, surely it might be ticking all the boxes for most of the awards but I didn't feel any emotional attachment to the story or any of the roles,it was just a big fight start to end, no real storyline.

Well yea any movie is subjective I guess. I love war movies and this was done brilliantly I thought.
I'm not saying it's good cuz it ticks boxes. The entire movie has many layers that make it brilliant. The way it's shot, how the action is depicted + the underlying story of it all.
The tension in the movie is incredible. Thanks to Zimmer's music and Nolan's way of showing the story in bits and pieces. The sheer desperation of the story. If Britain had not got those soldiers off Dunkirk history could have been a little different. The whole of Britain would have lost a morale in a big way..I think the movie explains all these things in a very subtle manner. Which is the sort of thing I really like.
It is a war movie and a very very desperate situation. I think the movie captures that feeling really well for me.
Not sure how you can say there is no story line. The story is to get those soldiers trapped in every which way by the Germans back to England for the main battle for Britain. I thought it did an amazing job of showing what happened in Dunkirk and in the incredible sacrifice the everyday people had to make to get their country men back home.
