Australia U19 team will play 3 Youth ODI's and one 3 day match against SL A team starting January 3rd.

The Australia Under 19 team will arrive in Sri Lanka on the 30th December 2018, to take part in 03 Youth ODI’s and a 3-Day Game with Sri Lanka Under 19.

The tour schedule is given below.

Dilshan Madusanka of Vijayaba Central, Hungama has found a place in the Sri Lanka Under-19 team for the upcoming Youth series against Australia.

The left-arm pacie is the only player picked from a school not playing in premier Under 19 schools cricket tournaments.

He has been picked in the team captained by St. Joseph Vaz’s, Wennappuwa all rounder Nipun Dananjaya after doing well in the Under-23 Inter Provincial tournament. Currently he is playing for BRC.

Nearly half the 15-member team consists of players from St. Joseph’s, Darley Road, Nalanda, Colombo and Richmond, Galle while majority of others are from schools playing in the Schools Under-19 Division I tournament.

A player each has been picked from Royal (Colombo), Mahanama (Colombo), Tissa Central (Kalutara), Gurukula (Kelaniya), St. Anthony’s (Wattala), Mahinda (Galle) and Zahira (Maradana).

Tissa Central spinner Roshan Sanjanya, who has retained his place after doing well in the previous tour is the only player from the Division II category.

Team manager Nalinda Jayamanne said that Dilshan Madusanka was picked based on his performances in the Inter Provincial Under-23 tournament and for his club, BRC. He said six players in the team are currently playing for premier clubs.

"The team picked is in the eligible age category to play the ICC Youth World Cup in 2020," Jayamanne further said.

Hence several players including Moratu Vidyalaya batsman Nishan Madushka and S. Thomas’ pacie Kalana Perera who did well for Sri Lanka Under-19s during previous tours have not been picked.

Excellent innings of 123 from Mishara batting till the 46th over but the bowling has let us down again. Aussies cruising, 17 runs required in 24 balls with 7 wickets in hand.

Both openers had played very slow innings in good batting conditions it seems. Should not encourage players who play these kind of slow innings in youth ODI's. You dont need to be a big hitter, just teach them to rotate strike and maintain their strike rates above 80. I don't know what the coaches are doing. If you look at the past few World Cups and compare other youth teams, this is one of the main reasons why we cannot even come close to winning a U19 World Cup.

2nd YODI played at the P. Sara today. Aussies batting first after winning the toss....43/2 (11) at the moment, Wijesinghe claiming both wickets.
