If Murali can work hard why can't Ramesh? This is exactly the kind of discussion I was trying to avoid when I said leave Kamindu aside.
We're talking about the system, not an exceptional individual here and there. Obviously not everyone has the same work ethic and capacity. This is human nature. Ideally, the system should be able to produce a bunch of good players on a regular basis. This is what proper systems in top countries achieve. That's why they have depth. A good system after school cricket will prepare these players and ease them into international cricket. Most of our players are learning on the job in the first couple of years in international cricket because domestic cricket is crap in SL.
School cricket may not be as good as it used to be, but I feel there's still decent talent coming out of school cricket. Then they have nowhere to go because we have this meaningless empty space between school cricket and international cricket. This void will remain until the sport goes provincial for real.
Talking of work ethics and stuff, I remember hearing this story back in the day, I think it was from Mubarak who was in my batch at Uni, he was back at Uni after some test series where Sanga scored bucketloads of runs in every test match and the very next day after a test match when everyone else was relaxing Sanga was at nets with his father doing throwdowns according to this story. I could be mixing up the source of the story as it's a long time ago.

He's been playing with his technique for 15+ years, this is what got him here. Most players are hesitant to adjust their technique when things are going well for them.
