Ngidi, Nortje bowl West Indies out for 97
June 10 2021 Ngidi took all of his five wickets in the second session. South Africa continued to make all the noises in the second session of the first Test at St Lucia, bowling their hosts West Indies out for 97 - the lowest Test score in their bilateral history with the Proteas. Leading the charge through the second session was Lungi Ngidi, who had begun the session wicketless but raced past first-session star Anrich Nortje to complete his second Test fifer, the pair claiming nine wickets between them on a helpful track on which the hosts strangely elected to bat. It was, however, Nortje who set the dominos tumbling in the second session. After two overs of quiet, Jermaine Blackwood pushed away from his body to leave the hosts five-down. Nortje, who had four of those wickets, seemed primed for a five-fer before Ngidi found his mojo bowling from the media end with the wind behind him. His pace was up and his probing lines and lengths got the slip cordon busy too. Roston Chase and Joshua da Silva were nicked off in a space of four deliveries in one over, exposing the tail. Rahkeem Cornwall tried to hit his way out of trouble and his efforts fetched him two boundaries before a thickish outside edge was pouched smartly by Aiden Markram running backwards from third slip. Kemar Roach edged one to the keeper to bring Ngidi level with Nortje at four-wickets apiece. Captain Dean Elgar gave both his fast men a chance to get the fifer by employing them in tandem. Jason Holder threw his bat around and farmed the strike before falling to Ngidi for the quicks second Test match fifer, nine Tests after his memorable debut against India at Centurion in 2018. Two sessions in to the Test match, the pitch continues to keep the seamers as evidenced by how South Africa's full-time captain Dean Elgar was prized out for a duck, poking at a late away swinger from Kemar Roach. The West Indian quick could have had the other opener Aiden Markram too in that brief period of play, only for a healthy edge to evade both the keeper and first slip Cornwall. Debutant Keegan Petersen and Markram saw off the remainder off the session and wiped out 30 runs from the deficit along the way. Brief scores:West Indies 97 (Jason Holder 20; Lungi Ngidi 5-19, Anrich Nortje 4-35) lead South Africa 127/4*(Keegan Petersen 19; Markram 60,Dussen 34*,Debutant Jayden Seales 10/3/34/3) lead by 30 runs 14 wkts fall on day 1 Ⓒ Cricbuzz 06-10-2021, 11:01 PM
Windies blown away for 97 in 40.5 by Ngidi and Nortje taking nine wickets between them. Excellent debut for 19 year old Jayden Seales taking three of the four SA wickets to fall.
