A deal has been agreed for Jose Mourinho to become Manchester United's new manager, after three days of talks.
Negotiations between Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes and senior United officials have concluded, although no contract has been signed. An official announcement from the club is expected on Friday. The Portuguese will replace Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who was sacked on Monday, two days after United won the FA Cup. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36392384 06-17-2016, 02:04 PM
Brazil football legend Pele was presented with an Olympic order -- the highest honour given by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) -- at the Pele museum in Santos on Thursday. Pele joked that his nation's football team had yet to win gold at the Olympics because he never played in the competition. "I was joking with my friends saying that Brazil never won an award, because I never played," the 75-year-old told reporters. Fourth par - Brazil have won a total of five World Cups and the Copa America eight times, but never an Olympic gold -- having been beaten by Mexico in the final at the London games four years ago. They will be hoping to end that barren run as the host nation of this summer's games in Rio de Janeiro. Pele added: "I joke with my friends, because we really never had a title and this was a chance God gave to me in receiving this honour. Let's hope and think positively, that maybe we can take an Olympic title, and once again, for all those who have been part of my story." Pele was previously named the IOC's 'Athlete of the Century' in 1999 despite never having played in the games himself, thanks to then-rule that professional athletes were not able to compete in the Olympics. Pele, the only footballer to have won the World Cup three times, was presented with the order by the IOC's president, Thomas Bach, who said: "In everything he does, both on and off the field, he exemplifies the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect." http://www.espn.in/football/brazil/story/2895760/brazil-football-legend-pele-honoured-with-olympic-order 06-27-2016, 05:29 AM
Argentina and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi retired from international duty after missing in a penalty shootout as Chile won the Copa America final.
"For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion," Messi said. The 29-year-old was making his 112th appearance for Argentina since making his debut in 2005. After the match finished 0-0 in 120 minutes, Chile won 4-2 on penalties for their second consecutive Copa title. Messi has not won a major international honour apart from a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Argentina were beaten 1-0 in the 2014 World Cup final by Germany and he has now lost three Copa America finals (2007, 2015, 2016). Messi's penalty miss on Sunday was Argentina's first attempt in the shootout, ballooned over the bar after Sergio Romero had denied Chile's Arturo Vidal. Lucas Biglia also missed from 12 yards, with Chilean substitute Francisco Silva scoring the decisive spot-kick. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36637591 06-27-2016, 05:31 AM
What a shame. Too young to retire, especially with a WC coming up in 2 years.

I think he takes losses very hard, the accumulated emotional impact of the 3 losses must be too much to take. A shame to see him go so early
