The third day of the 61st Indian Interstate Athletics Championship 2022 was held today (12th June) in Chennai and the Sri Lankan women’s 4*100m relay was in action in the finals.
The team managed to produce a timing of 45.35s, securing the 2nd position while the India team cruised to a comfortable Gold with a timing of 43.95s.
The Sri Lanka team consisted of Amasha de Silva, Shelinda Jansen, Medhani Jayamanne and Lakshika Sugandhi who have been the fastest women in Sri Lanka this season except for Rumeshika Ratnayake who didn’t participate in this tour.
Even though this performance (45.35s) is Sri Lanka’s seasonal best, it is nowhere near the expected timing. This same team recorded a much better performance last year in this competition with a timing of 44.55s in Patiala.
The gold medal-winning India team was strengthened by the participation of Hima Das, Dutee Chand, Dhanalakshmi Sekar and Srabani Nanda in their quartet, all of who have personal bests under 11.50 seconds.
