My pace has dropped since WFH. Cuz I would alternate between audiobooks and real books. Commute helps a lot with audiobook pace. That's gone to shit cuz of WFH now. If you truly want to read I just found I will just cram in 10 mins here 20 mins there when I can. It all adds up. Reading 30 mins a day will mean you could read 1000 books in your life time vs say 55-100. I watched this video because for a while I was really depressed about not reading enough in my adult life. I read so much when I was a kid so this was weighing on my mind. The video and the back of the handkerchief calculation really opened my eyes. I also realised that I should decide beforehand what I want to read and then dive into it with my 12 books this year challenge. Rather than trying to pick and choose as I go. I've got a good mixture in there of classics, fantasy, non fiction etc. Now I am just enjoying reading and these stories. To distill it down (if you want to read more) Read what you want Read as often as you can Read multiple books at the same time (so if you're bored with one swap to the other). I am still learning how to do this cuz I've always been 1 book at a time guy. And I hate not finishing. Have a plan Execute. 04-29-2020, 05:22 AM

Yeah, I must've have easily read around 1000 books (recently donated 400 that i had to the school library) between 8-18 and less that 100 or so in the 10 years since, which is depressing when you compare the amounts you read now vs then.

Seriously epic. Now I am on to Sanderson's true epic - The Stormlight Archive. According to mythology mankind used to live in The Tranquiline Halls. Heaven. But then the Voidbringers assaulted and captured heaven, casting out God and men. Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms. And the Voidbringers followed... They came against man ten thousand times. To help them cope, the Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, known as Shardblades. Led by ten angelic Heralds and ten orders of knights known as Radiants, mankind finally won. Or so the legends say. Today, the only remnants of those supposed battles are the Shardblades, the possession of which makes a man nearly invincible on the battlefield. The entire world is at war with itself - and has been for centuries since the Radiants turned against mankind. Kings strive to win more Shardblades, each secretly wishing to be the one who will finally unite all of mankind under a single throne. On a world scoured down to the rock by terrifying hurricanes that blow through every few day a young spearman forced into the army of a Shardbearer, led to war against an enemy he doesn't understand and doesn't really want to fight. What happened deep in mankind's past? Why did the Radiants turn against mankind, and what happened to the magic they used to wield? -- Book 1 The way of Kings https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7235533-the-way-of-kings Book 2 Words of Radiance https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17332218-words-of-radiance Book 3 Oathbringer https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34002132-oathbringer Book 4 - coming in November! -- I am nearing end of book 2 now. This has been truly epic. I actually cried towards the end of book 1. A swell of emotion hits you. This is high fantasy so a bit, unlike GoT. There is a magic system but Sanderson writes to the point. Everything he writes matters at some point. There is a lot of world-building yes and it is slow towards the beginning but his character work is absolutely brilliant. People like Kaladin and Dalinar and are amazingly written. You are so invested. 10-14-2020, 06:03 AM
Muga, if you haven't read Dune this is the time to get into it. The movie is scheduled for October 2021, so it's great starting now. At least first book. It's epic.

^^ Yeah no worries, glad to have helped. Once you start using Kindle people really get used to it, at least I did, and can't go back. So very different from typical Tablet/Phone screens.
And wanna hear about your Selfish Gene review - one of all time great books imo. |
