I also think too many cuts. Give them the 10% increase in contract fee they are asking and move forward. Only few players can earn the performance bonus during a series.....not many will get that opportunity.

Someone like Herath will lose 60-65k. 40k from the annual contract + 20-25k match fee in his 8-10 Tests a year. There is no way for him to get that back even by performing brilliantly. 40k cut is too big. I also think Test match fee shouldn't be reduced by $2500. It's a physically demanding format of 4-5 days.
A small reduction in the contract and opportunities to get back to the usual amount or earn more by performing would be fair. Looks like this was done to just save money rather than getting the best performance out of the team. 10-19-2016, 02:35 PM
Sri Lankan players are already one of the lowest paid cricketers in terms of contracts and now they are trying to reduce that also. No wonder the players are objecting.

I don't think the salaries they get are bad at all. Top 20 cricketers are getting paid handsomely by SL standards. Have to consider that our living cost is way below countries like ENG and AUS. Domestic cricketers are the ones struggling in SL. These cuts are too much no doubt.

This is just dumb.
Like I said earlier, now this is a huge incentive for players to be selfish. Because now they lose quite a bit by pay cuts, but stands to gain a lot by scoring selfish centuries. And with a captain like Mathews, he might just let players go for 100s in they are in, say, 80s or so, instead of pushing for declerations/victories etc. If you think I'm being silly, remember the Lord's debacle, he was totally assisting Chandimal. 10-19-2016, 07:29 PM
I don't know how you canjutufy cutting the annual contracts. It's completely riducoiiius
Unless Sumathi plans to cut it and then raise it to what it was before as the man of the people that he is. Is he setting up a PR stunt here? I think we found that Lankans are not that badly paid in relative terms. By SL living standards these guys are rolling in it 10-19-2016, 09:06 PM
Sri Lankan players are well paid in relative terms....don't think any one can grumble on that but there are too many cuts in the proposed contract. On the other hand, players have taken it easy because they earn the contract fee irrespective of performance. A small cut in the contract fee is OK, IMO...so that they know performance matters. Our guys need to be pushed a bit......it's do with our mentality.

The Sri Lanka cricketers were given time till this afternoon to accept the terms of their contracts after a fresh issue over payments surfaced earlier this week.
Players led by Angelo Mathews met with cricket officials in order to reach a compromise over current impasse but the SLC had stubbornly maintained their stance with a new deadline given to accept contract terms or risk being dropped from the tour of Zimbabwe. After employing players on tour contracts since February (their 2015-2016 contracts ended in February), SLC offered them a new performance-based agreement which sees a substantial cut in players’ annual contract fees, although they have been offered significant win bonuses and individual performance bonuses. However, players registered their firm disapproval, demanding a increase instead. In addition they were demanding that SLC pay them, 10 percent share of SLC’s income from global events which was agreed by former cricket administrators in 2014. “We have given them time till tomorrow (October 20) to accept the new terms,” said Ashley de Silva, CEO Sri Lanka Cricket. “We met them this morning (19) and handed over the contract papers to sign. Hopefully by tomorrow (20) they will sign and return it to us”. “There are some concerns by some players and we are looking at them,” he added. Players incur a substantial cut on annual contract fees under the proposed agreements, but De Silva is confident it would not lead to any sort of resistance from the players. “To be honest at least 90 percent of the players are receiving much more than what they were getting last year. I don’t think there will be any issues,” he added. SLC distributed contract papers to 17 players last morning, including captain and vice-captain while papers will be issued to 13 more players later. SLC’s decision to introduce pay-cuts was largely motivated by finding the Board had disbursed Rs. 684.85 million - approximately around 33 percent of Board’s income - among the 16 players in the National Squad during the previous contract year. The possibility that Sri Lanka will send a second string squad for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe and a subsequent Tri-Series also involving West Indies is real and growing. http://www.dailymirror.lk/article/SLC-stays-firm-on-player-contracts-D-Day-for-players-117771.html 10-20-2016, 09:59 AM

The Lord's incident was a one off moment of insanity.......dont think it will happen again. There are more positives than negatives in a performance based incentive.
